#1 A :30 voice over does not take me thirty seconds to do. Well, yes, it takes thirty seconds to say the lines but there is more to it than that. First, I have to know the who, what, where, when and why of the text. Then I have to rehearse it and decide how I want to say it. If I have no direction from the client then I try to offer three different readings of a recording this short. On top of that there is some basic editing done on my end, i.e., removing breath and mouth noises. In short, I am not being paid for :30 of work.
#2 I studied for years to be able to deliver the product you need. I studied acting, breathing technique, pronunciation, posture and more. If anyone could just “say it” than anyone could be hired to record it. All that studying helps it sound natural, accent appropriate and expressive. #3 I want you to love the recording. The best part of my work comes after I hit the send button on the email with your file attached. It happens when I receive a reply that says you love it and it’s better than you imagined. I bring the script to life. It’s great when the author tells me it sounds the way they intended. It’s Wishful Speaking - you will get your wish.
